How to Make a Great Resume for a Mid-Level Professional

How to Make a Great Resume for a Mid-Level ProfessionalHow to Make a Great Resume for a Mid-Level ProfessionalHow to Make a Great Resume for a Mid-Level ProfessionalHere are 10 reasons why this sample resume is perfect for a mid-level employee.First impressions count, and a resume is often your one and only shot to impress a potential employer. But as someone whos been in the workforce for several years, how do you condense years worth of continuing education, experience, certifications, and awards into one streamlined format that tells the story of your career and achievements? To make sure your resume is refined and ready to make a great first impression, take a look at the sample resume below and read through the 10 critical elements that make this a successful sample resume for a mid-level career professional. 1. The job seekers credentials are highlighted at the topIf you have the right credentials, like Alexa, flaunt them. At the top of your resume, after your name, list the ac ronyms for any advanced degrees or certifications youve earned that are considered selling points for your target job fleck. By highlighting your valuable credentials at the top, youre ensuring the recruiter doesnt accidentally miss these qualifications during the initial review of your resume.2. The resume includes a link to the job seekers online profileStudies by Jobvite reveal that over 90 percent of employers search for candidates social media profiles online before scheduling a job interview. Help recruiters find the right information about you online by including links to your relevant social accounts and sites. For example, Alexa included a custom link to herbei LinkedIn profile to supplement her professional resume. If you work in a creative field, consider adding the link to your online portfolio, blog, or another social media account, like Instagram, that allows you to show off images of your work. Whichever accounts you decide to add, make sure they are regularly maintai ned, professional, and support your current job goals. If you prefer to keep some of your online profiles personal and dont wish recruiters to find them, increase the security settings or change your account name to a nickname or your first and middle name so theyre harder to track down.3. The professional title makes the job seekers goals clearDont make the reader guess. Spell out your job goals by including a professional title above your career summary that states your target job title. After one look at the professional title on Alexas resume, Director of Marketing Communications, the reader knows exactly what type of role Alexa is seeking. Alexas career summary, also known as a resume professional summary, takes the place of the usual resume objective statement and goes on to explain why she is qualified to seek such a job position.4. A list of the job seekers core skills are featured in the resume snapshotOn average, hiring managers spend only six seconds scanning a professiona l resume before deciding if the candidate is a fit for the role. Most of that time is spent reviewing the information on the top third of the first page. As a job seeker, your goal is to give the reader a snapshot of your goals and qualifications within that first portion of your resume. Alexas resume contains a list of her core skill sets, usually labeled as Areas of Expertise or Core Competencies. This group of resume keywords gives the reader a quick overview of Alexas skills. In addition, these keywords will help Alexas resume pass an initial screen conducted by a piece of software known as an applicant tracking system (ATS). Recruiters use ATS software to scan applications and determine how compatible the candidate appears to be with the job description before reviewing the resume themselves.By identifying the right keywords found in the job descriptions of her target role and incorporating them into her resume, Alexas application has a better shot at getting past both the huma n and electronic gatekeepers.5. Achievements are quantified where possibleIts one thing to say you managed a budget or cut costs in your previous job. However, Its more impressive when you mention that you managed a $1.2 million budget and were able to cut costs by 21 percent. Numbers add context and attract the attention of recruiters. Whenever possible, quantify the scope of your role, your notable contributions, and your accomplishments to give the reader a better sense of what your position entailed and how you were able to deliver results. Its especially important to use numbers in the bulleted section of each job position to add context to your achievements. For instance, if youre in sales, mention if you achieved 100 percent or more of your quota. In Alexas case, the focus is placed on the amount of revenue she generated.6. The work experience shows progressionWhen youre no longer new to the workforce, recruiters expect your resume to illustrate your career progression. If you ve taken on greater responsibilities, larger projects, bigger budgets or teams, or earned job title promotions, call out these achievements on your professional resume.Use a chronological or hybrid resume format like Alexa so your journey up the career ladder is clear. In Alexas case, you can see that shes progressed from a coordinator to a senior manager over the course of her eight-year career. In addition, the bullet points under each of her job role descriptions call out her notable accomplishments.7. The job seeker uses a two-page resume lengthDont believe the common resume myth about resume length. Only college students and entry-level professionals are restricted to a one-page resume. As the length of your work history grows, so does the length of your professional resume. If you are a mid-level professional like Alexa, youve earned that second page of resume real estate. Use it to elaborate on the details of your recent roles, assuming theyre relevant to your current job goa ls. Bump your earliest work experience to the second page of your resume and give it less space. Recruiters are most interested in the work youve done recently and how that qualifies you for their open position theyre less concerned about your first job position after college graduation.8. The resume format is consistentThink of your resume as part of your personal advertising campaign. Its your calling card, and, in many cases, the first impression you will make with potential employers. Put your best foot forward. In addition to checking for spelling errors and other grammatical mistakes, make sure you use a consistent format for dates and locations throughout the resume. For instance, do you plan to spell out or abbreviate the states within your locations (i.e. San Diego, California vs. San Diego, CA)? If you decide to include the month with your dates of employment, do you intend to use numerals to represent the month, spell it out entirely or use a three-letter abbreviation (i. e. 12/2015 vs. December 2015 vs. Dec. 2015)?It doesnt necessarily matter which format you choose the key is to make a decision and remain consistent throughout the document. Theres no better way to demonstrate that youre a detail-oriented professional than to deliver a polished professional resume with a slick, consistent format.9. The Education section is at the end of the resumeAt the beginning of Alexas career, her marketing degree was one of her best selling points. As a result, the details of her education were prominently displayed towards the top of her resume. Now that Alexa has a few years of relevant work experience under her belt, she can graduate from an entry-level resume format and move the Education section to the end of her resume. If youre a mid-level professional like Alexa, its time to shift the focus of your resume to your latest and most impressive selling points to date your recent experience.10. Job references are not listed on the resumeLong gone are the days when job seekers were expected to list their references or even the phrase, References available upon request on a professional resume. These details arent necessary until youve made it past the first round of phone screens. Once you make it past this stage of the interview process, hiring managers know youll provide references if they ask for them.Whether youre actively looking for a new position to advance to the next level of your career or youre simply keeping your career options open, take the time to update your resume and make it look as polished as possible. That way, when your dream job comes along, youll be ready with a resume thats proven to get the attention of the decision makers that matter most.Click on the following link to view more resume examples and samples for every career.Ready to graduate from an entry-level resume? Animal Diets - Zoo Commissary Keeper

Animal Diets - Zoo Commissary KeeperAnimal Diets - Zoo Commissary KeeperZoo commissary keepers prepare and distribute nutritionally balanced tierpark animal diets. Duties Zoo commissary keepers must prepare a variety of animal diets each day, making adjustments and adding necessary supplements as directed by the zoos nutritionists and veterinarians. Diets may frequently change due to special health issues, illnesses, pregnancies, or individual animal quirks, so commissary staff must work closely with zoo keepers and curators to keep diet sheets and cookbooks up to date. A key responsibility for the commissary keepers is delivering all animal rations to the exhibits on a strict schedule, either handing the items off to a zoo keeper or distributing the food themselves. The method of food distribution is often a parte of an animals behavioral enrichment program, so food may be hidden inside objects, scattered across a wider area to encourage foraging, or frozen inside blocks of ice. The commissary keepers must be careful to follow food safety and preparation guidelines, ensuring that the zoo kitchen is kept up to inspection standards at all times. A wide variety of commercial-grade kitchen equipment must be properly used and maintained. Walls and equipment must be regularly and thoroughly disinfected. Commissary keepers also maintain an inventory of supplies and order more food items from vendors as needed. Once delivered, the commissary staff is responsible for unloading the food products and storing them in appropriate areas (freezers, refrigerators, warehouses, and barns). Food products that arrive regularly in the commissary may include bales of hay, grains, meats, live insects, rodents, fish, pellets, bird seed, biscuits, fruit, vegetables, and much more. Zoo commissary keepers also provide food preparation demonstrations to school groups that arrive as a part of behind the scenes tours led by zoo educators. They may also allow students to assist in some of the basic food preparation duties. Commissary keepers spend the majority of their time in the food preparation kitchen and storage areas, but they are also exposed to varying weather conditions while delivering food to animal enclosures. The work day for the commissary staff usually starts very early in the morning, before dawn, and ends in the mid-afternoon. Commissary keepers are commonly required to work some hours on weekends and holidays, and these necessary shifts may be accommodated through a rotating schedule. Career Options Opportunities for commissary keeper positions may be found in a variety of animal facilities including zoos, aquariums, animal parks, marine parks, and rescue facilities. A commissary keeper can eventually rise to a management role, such as commissary manager or curator, after achieving the requisite experience and education. Education Training A high school diploma or GED is usually the minimum educational requirement for any zoo commissary keeper positions. A year of hands-on experience in food preparation or completion of an approved training course in food service is usually preferred. A four-year degree in the biological sciences is often the minimum requirement for managerial level positions in the commissary. Some zoos offer internship programs that enable students to gain experience in this field of work. behauptung valuable opportunities add a measure of practical experience to a future commissary keepers resume, and they also give the student a chance to network with industry professionals. Salary Compensation for zoo commissary keepers generally ranges from $12 to $16 per hour, depending on the keepers level of experience, their length of employment at the facility, and the geographic location in which the zoo operates (some regions tend to offer slightly higher salaries due to higher costs of living in those areas). While zoo commissary keeper salaries were not separated out from the more general categor y of zoo keepers, PayScale.com cited a zoo keeper salary range of $16,055 to $37,222 (for an average of $26,639). Indeed.com and SimplyHired.com each reported a similar average zoo keeper salary of $29,000. Zoo commissary managers can expect higher hourly rates ranging from $16 to $25 per hour or more. SimplyHired.com cited a salary of $68,000 for zoo commissary managers in 2013. Career Outlook While the salary is not particularly high for zoo commissary keeper positions, most zoo positions are seen as highly desirable career opportunities and attract multiple applicants. Most zoos have a staff of 5 to 15 commissary keepers, with the exact number of commissary staff members dependent on the size of the facility and the needs of its animal inhabitants. The fairly static number of zoo facilities in operation combined with high demand for zoo related positions will likely limit overall growth in this profession for the foreseeable future.

Emotional intelligence. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Emotional intelligence. The good, the badeanstalt, and the ugly.Emotional intelligence. The good, the bad, and the ugly.On a very basic level, emotional intelligence is defined as street smarts rather than book smarts. Or, just a heightened state of awareness. Heres what Im talking about.Traci announces shes leaving her husband.High EI The only one who is elend surprised Traci and her husband always seemed tense together.Average EI One of several people not surprised Noticed the tension but didnt know it was that bad.Low EI The only one totally surprised Never noticed anything.Thats the basic gist of it. Now, how does emotional intelligence (EI) translate into success in life and work? The good.Several studies point to EI being more important than IQ when it comes to success. The Carnegie Institute of Technology carried out a study that showed 85% of financial success is attributed to skills in human engineering, personality, and the ability to communicate, negotiate, and lead. Only 1 5% depends on technical ability. In other words, people skills or skills related to emotional intelligence are the most crucial.Case in point Jeff Bezos. His customer-first approach and finely-tuned customer understanding created the biggest online retailer the world has ever seen. Amazon has always encuraged customers to post reviews, even if theyre critical or negative, and to email the CEO directly with complaints. And customers love it. Bezos never stops measuring customer behavior and adding new features to make his customers happy. This human engineering has driven the companys share price to more than $830. Thats not just impressive, its kind of mind-boggling, especially considering the company maintains a profit margin of less than 1%.If you look at the TV show, The Apprentice, the winner is always the person with the highest EI, not the highest IQ. Why is that? Nobel Prize winning Israeli-American psychologist Daniel Kahneman found that people would rather do business with a person they like and trust rather than someone they dont, even if that person is offering a better product at a lower price. The bad. With heightened awareness comes heightened sensitivity. When you find yourself in a situation that requires a more objective approach, a high EI can actually hinder you in a couple of ways.Empathy is considered one of the cornerstones of emotional intelligence. High EI-ers tend to see the teardrop of good in an ocean of bad and hang onto it. As a result, you might find yourself making excuses for people, no matter how bad they are. In business, thats not exactly a recipe for success. And as a boss, that kind of behavior can make you vulnerable to manipulation from opportunistic employees, ignore problems for too long and inflict damage to both morale and strategy.A heightened sense of awareness, as many high-EI people have, can also make conflict unbearably painful. But avoiding conflict means never coming to a resolution, and theres a reason you dont read many biographies of passive leaders shying away from conflict and its resolution just makes everything worse. The ugly.Succeeding in life is highly dependent on succeeding socially. So having a high EI is important. But a growing body of research is uncovering the fact that the concept of emotional intelligence is morally neutral it can be used for just as much bad as it can be for good.In the 1990s, emotional intelligence was painted in rosy terms, perhaps as a reaction to decades of hierarchical, command-and-control leadership. That cold, unemotional style, described in the book The Organization Man, was falling out of fashion.Over time, our understanding of the use of emotions at work has evolved. Updated research has revealed the dark side of emotional intelligence. Studies in 2010 and 2014 found the workplace provides ample opportunities for narcissists to use their EI to manipulate others. Emotional intelligence is, after all, defined as being able to use your emotions to your advantage.Emotional intelligence can also be a trap for those who believe they have a lot of it, creating an unwarranted arrogance. Theres a well-recorded tendency for all of us to think too highly of our own ability, how well we read a room or understand the motivations of others - an idea lampooned by Garrison Keillor in his famous Lake Woebegone stories of a place where everyone is above-average. If someone has been praised for their emotional intelligence repeatedly, they may take it for granted - which, in turn, causes them to assume theyre always right about others.Emotional intelligence can also elicit extreme emotional reactions. Tim Armstrong, the chairman and CEO of AOL, who has exhibited an extremely high EI, famously fired a videographer in the middle of a conference call with more than 1000 people for taking a photograph. Later, he apologized It was an emotional reaction that had nothing to do with the photographer, but more to do with the shareholder pressure h e was under at the time.To be truly empathetic and emotionally intelligent, its important to remember that despite our own interpretations of others behavior, they may not have be out to get us or offend us at all.If you werent naturally born with a high EI, you can learn listen more carefully, be compassionate, pay attention, and stay grounded. Because success in life and work is actually dependent on a balanced combination of emotional awareness and objective reality. Not an easy feat, even for the most gifted among us.

Words You Should Never Say During an Interview

Words You Should Never Say During an InterviewWords You Should Never Say During an InterviewA guide for what not to say during a job einstellungsgesprch. Preparing for a job interview can be stressful. When youre setting yourself up to be the best candidate you can be, you typically look for advice on what to do and say during an interview. However, you may not be taking note of the things you should avoid saying. There are certain words and phrases that can trigger a negative reaction from the interviewer- behauptung are the types of sentences you want to avoid completely. The compilation below will help you get a better feel for what you should and shouldnt talk about. What does your company do?Its always good to ask questions during an interview and find out as much as you can about the work environment you are petitioning for. However, you should do your research before the interview. The company wants to know that you are knowledgeable about the company and job you have applied for. If you are asking questions about the company that could easily be found online, they will think youve come unprepared.Im a perfectionist. One of the most common interview questions centers around asking the interviewee to describe their own weaknesses. Many take this opportunity to try to talk about something good about themselves in a way they could portray as a weakness. You shouldnt do this. All interviewers know that each candidate has their own, real weakness. Your best bet is to pick a reasonable weakness, and talk about the steps you are currently taking to improve. My last boss was horrible.Whether you truly believe your last boss was not good at managing, had a horrible temperament, or was incompetent at their job, during an interview is not the time to discuss this. Complaining about your last or current job only reflects badly on you. A good way to talk about your previous work environment is to talk about the challenges you may have faced, and what you did to get ar ound those challenges or improve your working environment.Ill take any job. With the current economy and job market, it is true that many job candidates are simply looking for any job where they can earn money. This is not something that should be said during the interview, though. The interviewer wants to know that you want this one job, specifically at their company. Interviewers are looking for candidates that are going to fit in well at the company. In this case, desperation is not appealing.I dont have much experienceWhen you talk about and apologize for the experience you dont have, you are giving the interviewer a reason not to hire you. Instead of drawing attention to your weaknesses, in this case lack of experience, focus mora on how you are a good fit for the job and why you would excel within the company. You could talk about previous skills you have that would be able to transfer into this job.I dont know. You should never be left without an answer to a question. While you might practice with mock interviews and go over answers to popular interview questions, you still might come upon that one question that makes you want to scratch your head. There are a couple strategies you could take that give you more time to think out an appropriate answer. For one, you could repeat the question thoughtfully. You could also comment on the quality of the question Thats a great question. I would say If you still need more time, you could ask for a glass of water or a pen and paper.I was fired from my last job.If you are asked about your job, you should come right out and talk about being fired. You never want to lie during an interview, but there are more tactful ways to phrase a firing. You may say, My boss and I didnt see eye to eye, and we both agreed that I would be happier at another company. If you are asked about a past job that you were fired from, this is not a question you should dwell on. Give a succinct and truthful answer, and allow the interviewer t o move on to other questions.

This iPhone feature can radically improve life and relationships

This iPhone feature can radically improve life and relationshipsThis iPhone feature can radically improve life and relationshipsRecently, I read a book about a man named Matthew Cowley, who was an incredible missionary and humanitarian to the people in New Zealand over 100 years ago.The book detailed the mans life and one thing really stood-out to me. Throughout Cowleys life, he was regarded by thousands of people to be a truly good friend. This subject spoke to me because friendship is becoming an increasingly complex and confusing topic. What does it mean to be a good friend? What does being a good friend look like in a world of constant connection?Cowley lived long before the internet. But he did a few things that are extremely relevant that I think all of us could do today. Moreover, with new technologies, we can actually make ur friendships even mora intimate than ever. The two things Cowley did well wereRemember peoples names, important aspects of them, and even birthdaysHe would o ften write heartfelt and humorous letters to people throughout the yearsIn this article, Im going to briefly share how to radically enhance your memory, since remembering key details is essential to becoming a good friend.Im also going to explain why the iPhone audio-text message feature is potentially one of the fruchtwein powerful tools for developing deep and meaningful friendships. Without question, when you become a good friend, you will change peoples lives. Youll pull people out of slumps you didnt even know they were in. Youll be an answer to their prayers. Youll give them strength in times of need. Youll cheer them up and allow them to appreciate the small things in life. Youll trigger memories theyve long since forgotten.By the end of this article, you will understandHow to improve your memoryHow to become an incredible friendHow to take the fruchtwein from your experiences in lifeHow to positively transform yourself and also transform othersHow motivation works (and how t o have limitless motivation)How identity is formed, and how to reshape your identity and become the best version of yourselfHow to connect deeply with anyoneA quick primer on enhancing your memory (which is required to be a good friend)When you train your creativity, you automatically train your memory. When you train your memory, you automatically train your creative thinking skills - Tony BuzanIve recently written a post about how to enhance your memory. Without question, most people fail to utilize their long-term memory. There is no limit to the storage of memories we can have. Our subconscious has an infinite bandwidth. Most peoples schwierigkeit is that they lack powerful strategies for enhancing memory. Heres a simple breakdownMemory is all about imaginationThe mora imaginative you are when formulating a memory, the stronger that memory isMemory is about connecting what you already know with what you are trying to knowWhen it comes to remembering names, you want to link that parties name with aleidher feature of that person, and connect it to something meaningful to youI recently met a person named Jacob, which was easy because I have a brother named Jacob. I tried to be mindful about how this new Jacob may remind me of my brother - even if in a landseemingly ridiculous way. It doesnt matter how ridiculous the connection is. In fact, the more imaginative the better. And the more connections you make, the deeper the memory will be forged.Put simply, you can remember nearly every persons name you meet if you actually give attention and care. Ask a few questions about the person when you meet them and while youre actively listening, make imaginative connections that trigger a deep memory.I know Ill never forget that kid, Jacobs name. .I know that my memory is infinite and powerful. I know that your memory is infinite and powerful. In order to be a good friend, you need to remember people. Firstly, you need to remember their name, but you also need to remem ber key details about them. Once you get good at memory, you can remember lots and lots of details in a short amount of time.Which brings me to writing letters. And really, which brings me to the iPhone. This is an article about an iPhone feature after all.Audio-texting is the new hand-written letter for good friendsHand-written letters are indeed important. In a world of digital and surface-level communication, nothing is more powerful that a personal touch. However, I recently became aware of the audio-text message feature on my iPhone. And after reading about Matthew Cowley, I decided to departeure sending audio letters to my friends and family. While writing in my journal one night, several people departureed popping into my head. When someone would pop into my mind, Id pull out my phone and send them and audio-text message.Sometimes, the people who came to my mind were old friends from high school I hadnt talked to in years. I reached out to mentors. I reached out to a cousin I h adnt talked to in a long-time, which relationship has become quite strained over the years. In my audio texts, I expressed genuine love and appreciation. I thanked them for specific experiences we had had together, and told them how meaningful those experiences were to me. I brought humor and fun into the messages when it made sense. The replies I got to these audio messages were unexpected and sometimes unbelievable.More than once, I had someone reach back and told me they were in tears. I had one person tell me I had followed the spirit and that I reached out at just the right time and said exactly what he needed to hear. Crazy, right?I rekindled old ties that had long since faded away.Theres a lot of really cool science behind what Im currently describing. Ill start with gratitudeThe Science Of GratitudeGratitude has clearly been found to change people. When you express gratitude to people, it changes how you view and regard them. You actually see and treat people differently after youve expressed gratitude to them. This fits with two really great prozentzahls that I loveDr. Wayne Dyer said, When you change the way you see things, the things you see change. Also, the famous philosopher Goethe said, The way you see someone is the way you treat them and the way you treat them is who they will become. Thus, when you see someone or something differently, you treat that thing or person differently. When you treat them differently, they change. But not only do they change, you change. Which brings me to how motivation and identity workThe science of identityTheres a concept in psychology known as self-signaling, which basically means that you judge and evaluate yourself based on your behavior. When you act kind, you perceive yourself to be kind. When you wake up early and start your day right, you see yourself as someone who is motivated. Put simply, your behavior shapes your identity. Your behavior also shapes your beliefs. When you change your identity, your personalit y begins transforming as well. According to Dr. Maxwell Maltz in his powerful book, Psycho-Cybernetics, The self-image is the key to human personality and human behavior. Change the self image and you change the personality and the behavior. How do you change the identity? You change the behavior. Then, as your behavior changes, your identity changes. Desire comes first, then decision, then action, then identity, then personality. Once your personality changes, you own it. Its now a part of you.So how do you become a good friend? You start acting like a good friend. And a very simple and powerful way to do this is by sending audio-texts to your friends and to anybody really. You could send texts to seriously anyone whose phone number you have and express appreciation. The more specific the appreciation, the more memorable. The more you connect that appreciation to relevant things, the more memorable it will be to the other person. Thus, not only can you rekindle friendships, you can c reate new ones. This will of course change the people you are talking to (especially if they really need some love). It will also transform the relationship. And indeed, it will transform you.Your behavior will change how you see yourself. When you start acting like a better friend, youll see yourself as more friendly. Your gratitude will change you. It will increase your self-esteem.But not only that, your behavior will increase your motivation. Which brings me to another strand of science. The science of motivationYour behavior shapes your motivation, not the other way around. As Harvard psychologist Jerome Bruner has said, Youre more likely to act yourself into feeling, than feeling yourself into action.Heres what most people have wrong about motivation. They believe motivation leads to action. This is the opposite of truth. Action creates motivation. As famous entrepreneurial coach, Dan Sullivan has said, Good things only happen when you are in motion. Thus, when you start sending greater love to your friends, youll feel even more motivated to be a better friend and person. Similar to motivation is inspiration. How do you get inspired? You act. You wake up early and start exercising, even if initially you dont want to.How you feel in the moment doesnt really matter. What does matter are the feelings youll have as a result. Again, your behavior shapes your identity, beliefs, and motivation. You can make doing the right thing become automatic once you become accustomed to the results that come by doing the right thing. As you act powerfully, youll develop confidence. When dispels yet another myth people have about success. Its not confidence that creates success - its successful behavior that creates confidence. So, when you do what you tell yourself youre going to do and start getting small wins, youll develop more confidence.Heres a powerful principle to live by Do what is right let the consequence follow. This is how confidence forms. And why do amazing things, like wake up early, exercise, practice personal development, and become a better friend?Because you deserve it. And because you love yourself. You are worth investing in.You are worth waking up early for.Youre worth becoming a successful person.Youre worth becoming incredibly happy and healthy.Your worth living a life your proud of.You should make powerful decisions because you love yourself. Thats why I wake up at 5 AM, because I love myself. Im worth having a good day. Im worth being motivated, inspired and powerful. So are you.And you demonstrate that self-worth through powerful choices. You can make those choices today. In fact, you must start making them now. As Meredith Willson said, You pile up enough tomorrows, and youll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. The secret to developing powerful connections with anyoneLife gives to the giver and takes from the taker. - Joe PolishJoe Polish is one of the most connected people in business. He has a strategy for enhancing connections. He calls it his Magic Rapport Formula. The principles of his formula areFocus on how you will help others reduce their sufferingInvest time, money, and energy on relationshipsBe the type of person they would always answer the phone forBe useful, grateful, and valuableTreat others how you would love to be treatedAvoid formalities, be fun and memorable, not boringAppreciate peopleGive value on the spotGet as close to in-person as you canSo many of these principles are life-changing. If you apply these concepts, you will become an incredible friend. Youll build a world-class network. Youll become extremely successful in life and business. To quote Zig Ziglar, You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.Heres why iPhone audio-texting is so powerful. It allows you to be as close to in-person as you can. Of course, you can send a video text if youd like. However, audio is powerful because a person can listen t o your words, in your voice, and be able to reflect. Sometimes a video can look a little strange (not that you shouldnt do it).How to be continually transformed by lifeContinual learning is essential for lifetime growth. You can have a great deal of experience and be no smarter for all the things youve done, seen, and heard. Experience alone is no guarantee of lifetime growth. But if you regularly transform your experiences into new lessons, you will make each day of your life a source of growth. The smartest people are those who can transform even the smallest events or situations into breakthroughs in thinking and action. Look at all of life as a school and every experience as a lesson, and your learning will always be greater than your experience. - Dan Sullivan and Catherine NomuraThere is a key concept in psychology known as openness to experience. In fact, it is one of the BIG 5 factors of personality. Sadly, as most people age, they become increasingly less open to having new experiences. Most people progressively stop seeking friendships with new types of people and avoid taking on new challenges and risks. They stop seeking new information that conflicts with their current perspectives and way of life. Hence, it is common for people to becoming increasingly set in their ways as they age.Experiences can and should change you. Yet, many people go through life experiences completely shut-off to what their experiences could teach them.If you learn from the experiences life is giving you, you will change. Youll be able to produce better outcomes. Youll be able to stop doing the things that are keeping you in unhealthy patterns. Your personality will change, and it should. Personality is largely based on memory, which should be continuously changing and expanding with new connections and associations.I recently had a conversation with a friend who had a very transformational experience serving a 2-year humanitarian and service mission for his church. A self -proclaimed introvert, he said that every day of his mission was hard because he had to be an extrovert during those 2 years. Once he got home, he went right back to being an introvert. He said that he actually believed he could have made permanent changes in his personality based on his experiences. However, he said that he preferred being an introvert. As such, he didnt really want to let his experiences sink-in. He didnt want to change who he was. Theres too much unknown in that. And as research shows, the fear of the unknown is the foundation of all fears. Why go against my preference? he asked me.I guess you dont need to if youre FULLY satisfied with the results youre currently getting and the trajectory youre on, I replied.Without question, a person can upgrade their preferences. They can learn to love something they didnt love before which actually builds on core strengths.Identity is like memory - its infinite. You dont have to be just an introvert OR an extrovert. You can be a completely well-rounded person who absorbs and allows all of life experiences to transform and expand them. Theres no need to put yourself into such a limiting box as a personality type.So how do you become more open to new experiences?Firstly, you need to be humble, which means that you are open to the fact that your current way of seeing and doing things isnt the best way to do them. In other words, you need to be open to the fact that your current preferences arent optimal, and can and should be upgraded. The term humility comes from the Latin word humilitas, a noun related to the adjective humilis, which may be translated as humble, but also as grounded, or from the earth.Humility and humidity are linguistically very connected, and for good reason. The word humidity is all about moisture and wetness. Humility, represents the soil. If the soil is humble, it absorbs the humidity. If the soil is not humble but hard, then it doesnt absorb the humidity.Humble soil accepts the nutrie nts that humidity brings it.Similarly, humble people absorb new information and new experiences. They are changed by their experiences. They dont close themselves off to them. They dont revert back to old ways after life-changing experiences. Their learning becomes permanent and a part of them. Not temporary and forgotten. Are you humble?Do you absorb all that life is giving you?Or, like most people, are you closed-off to new experiences?Does your learning become permanent, or is most of it forgotten and senfgas?Do you believe your preferences are the best approach? Or, are you willing to expand your vision for yourself and what you can be?Are you stuck in a personality type? Or do you realize that you as a person are infinite?Memory is infinite. So is a persons potential to change, if theyre humble and open. If they begin behaving in powerful ways, their whole life will change. The power of prayer and journal writingI have so much to do today that Im going to need to spend three hour s in prayer in order to be able to get it all done. - Martin LutherOne of the most powerful ways to get insights is by writing in your journal. Moreover, with new technologies, we can actually make our friendships even more intimate than ever. The two things Cowley did well wereRemember peoples names, important aspects of them, and even birthdaysHe would often write heartfelt and humorous letters to people throughout the yearsIn this article, Im going to briefly share how to radically enhance your memory, since remembering key details is essential to becoming a good friend.Im also going to explain why the iPhone audio-text message feature is potentially one of the most powerful tools for developing deep and meaningful friendships. Without question, when you become a good friend, you will change peoples lives. Youll pull people out of slumps you didnt even know they were in. Youll be an answer to their prayers. Youll give them strength in times of need. Youll cheer them up and allow them to appreciate the small things in life. Youll trigger memories theyve long since forgotten.By the end of this article, you will understandHow to improve your memoryHow to become an incredible friendHow to take the most from your experiences in lifeHow to positively transform yourself and also transform othersHow motivation works (and how to have limitless motivation)How identity is formed, and how to reshape your identity and become the best version of yourselfHow to connect deeply with anyoneA quick primer on enhancing your memory (which is required to be a good friend)When you train your creativity, you automatically train your memory. When you train your memory, you automatically train your creative thinking skills - Tony BuzanIve recently written a post about how to enhance your memory. Without question, most people fail to utilize their long-term memory. There is no limit to the storage of memories we can have. Our subconscious has an infinite band width. Most peoples problem is that they lack powerful strategies for enhancing memory. Heres a simple breakdownMemory is all about imaginationThe more imaginative you are when formulating a memory, the stronger that memory isMemory is about connecting what you already know with what you are trying to knowWhen it comes to remembering names, you want to link that persons name with another feature of that person, and connect it to something meaningful to youI recently met a person named Jacob, which was easy because I have a brother named Jacob. I tried to be mindful about how this new Jacob may remind me of my brother - even if in a seemingly ridiculous way. It doesnt matter how ridiculous the connection is. In fact, the more imaginative the better. And the more connections you make, the deeper the memory will be forged.Put simply, you can remember nearly every persons name you meet if you actually give attention and care. Ask a few questions about the person when you meet them and w hile youre actively listening, make imaginative connections that trigger a deep memory.I know Ill never forget that kid, Jacobs name. .I know that my memory is infinite and powerful. I know that your memory is infinite and powerful. In order to be a good friend, you need to remember people. Firstly, you need to remember their name, but you also need to remember key details about them. And after reading about Matthew Cowley, I decided to start sending audio letters to my friends and family. While writing in my journal one night, several people started popping into my head. When someone would pop into my mind, Id pull out my phone and send them and audio-text message.Sometimes, the people who came to my mind were old friends from high school I hadnt talked to in years. I reached out to mentors. I reached out to a cousin I hadnt talked to in a long-time, which relationship has become quite strained over the years. Crazy, right?I re kindled old ties that had long since faded away.Theres a lot of really cool science behind what Im currently describing. Ill start with gratitudeThe Science Of GratitudeGratitude has clearly been found to change people. When you express gratitude to people, it changes how you view and regard them. You actually see and treat people differently after youve expressed gratitude to them. This fits with two really great quotes that I loveDr. Which brings me to how motivation and identity workThe science of identityTheres a concept in psychology known as self-signaling, which basically mea ns that you judge and evaluate yourself based on your behavior. When you act kind, you perceive yourself to be kind. When you wake up early and start your day right, you see yourself as someone who is motivated. Put simply, your behavior shapes your identity. Your behavior also shapes your beliefs. When you change your identity, your personality begins transforming as well. And a very simple and powerful way to do this is by sending audio-texts to your fr iends and to anybody really. You could send texts to seriously anyone whose phone number you have and express appreciation. The more specific the appreciation, the more memorable. The more you connect that appreciation to relevant things, the more memorable it will be to the other person. Thus, not only can you rekindle friendships, you can create new ones. It s not confidence that creates success - its successful behavior that creates confidence. In fact, you must sta rt making them now. However, audio is powerful because a person can listen to your words, in your voice, and be able to reflect. Look at all of life a s a school and every experience as a lesson, and your learning will always be greater than your experience. A self-proclaimed introvert, he said that every day of his mission was hard because he had to be an extrovert during those 2 years. Why go against my preference? he asked me.I guess you dont need to if youre FULLY satisf ied with the results youre currently getting and the trajectory youre on, I replied.Without question, a person can upgrade their preferences. 4 Candidate Questions to Know in the Interview - Spark Hire

4 Candidate Questions to Know in the Interview - Spark HireYoure getting to the end of an interview with a promising candidate, and you start to relax the hard part is over. Now, you just need to finish up, by answering some questions from the candidate. But its not as easy as it sounds. In the interview, you are the representative for the company. Its your job to accurately portray the lokalitt to the candidate, and convince them to come on board. Just as job seekers need to prepare for the interview, you also need to prepare yourself to answer common questions asked. Here are some of the most frequently asked candidate interview questions, and how recruiters can answer them effectively 1. Can you describe an average day to me?This might be easier to answer if you are actually the department supervisor, than if you are in Human Resources and more removed from the day-to-day activities an employee would encounter. We often fall back on the job description, but what the applicant is trying to do is imagine how they would fit into your structure.Imagine yourself a homebuyer and youre trying to picture your family living in the new house. Is the dining room large enough for family dinners? Where will the children play? The job applicant is trying to visualize what their life will be like in these new surroundings. For promising candidates, a short tour can go a long way to giving them a feel for what they can expect and how they will fit in.Jodi Berkshire, Assistant Director of Career Services, The Art Institute of Fort LauderdaleCan you describe an average day during the interview? via Jodi Berkshire of Art_InstitutesClick To Tweet2. What kind of challenges should I expect to face if offered this position? If a candidate asks you this question, this isnt a time to hold back and sugar-coat. Remember that theyre sitting across from you because they want this position, so give it to them straight. Tell them exactly what kind of difficulties they might face and even why the previous person to hold the position had to be replaced (keeping it confidential, of course). If they still want the position, after hearing the most difficult aspects of it, you know the candidate is serious. The best candidates will even offer suggestions on how to most effectively tackle these challenges right on the spot. These are the candidates we usually have our eyes on for the eventual hire.Brandon Baker, Hiring Manager, Loveletter CakeshopCheck out this important CandidateQuestion from Brandon Baker of lovelettercakesClick To Tweet3. What are the companys three biggest values, and how are they exemplified throughout the company?Hiring professionals can prepare for an interview by doing some research on their candidates, that goes beyond fact checking or a review of LinkedIn or another social media profile. Because the hiring process is a financial investment from job posting to job offer and beyond, to attract the best candidate, a hiring manager must be able to fin d and relate to the values of that candidate.Ultimately, an interview is a conversation to find a match between the candidates personality and the company personality. Finding individuals with clear personal values and matching them to a companys values could be the biggest determining factor to that new employees commitment to the job, beyond qualifications. What does success look like for an effective employee in this position? The key to this question is that an interviewee is looking for two things what you, as the employer, are really looking for in terms of the job itself and what it requires, and to determine what your work environment is like and if they will be a good fit.John Turner, CEO/Founder, UsersThinkWhat does success look like for an effective employee?
